Groom Construction Expands Its Florida Presence

Affordable Housing | Banking | Senior Living | Medical Facilities | Tenant Fit-Outs | Luxury Condominiums | Recreational Facilities | National Retail | Offices | Academic

March 21, 2025

For more than 40 years, Massachusetts-based Groom Construction has built strong relationships with clients across multiple industries, completing projects throughout the country. Over time, Florida emerged as a key market, with companies experiencing significant growth in the state and needing Groom’s expertise in commercial, residential, and retail construction. As the firm expanded its subcontractor network and hired more Florida-based employees, it became clear that establishing a physical office in the region was the next logical step.

Groom initially set up a satellite office in Naples in 2022 and, amid rapid growth, later celebrated the grand opening of its new, expanded location at 3415 Radio Road in October 2024.

The expansion has provided key advantages, strengthening Groom’s presence in the Southeastern U.S. and enhancing its ability to manage regional operations. With a dedicated office, the firm can more effectively oversee projects, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure efficient project execution. It also fosters closer collaboration with local clients, staff, and partners, reinforcing Groom’s commitment to high-quality service and streamlined communication.

Groom Construction is widely recognized for its expertise in commercial, residential, and retail construction. The firm offers preconstruction consulting, design-build services, construction management, and general contracting, serving a diverse range of industries. From high-profile university work to medical facilities, affordable housing, senior living and luxury condominiums, recreational facilities, banking, tenant fit-outs and national retail projects, Groom continues to align itself with customers looking for long-term relationships and future-forward partnerships.

In Florida, Groom has recently completed projects such as Gateway Plaza in Fort Pierce, multiple Target, TD Bank, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hibbett, and TJX locations, as well as non-retail developments at Four Winds Condominiums, Diplomat Club, GreenLinks Golf Villas at Lely Resort, Tarpon Cove, Royal Harbor, and Tower Pointe at Arbor Trace.

With a solid foundation in place, Groom is eager to expand further in the Florida market. Establishing a permanent presence allows the company to take on more projects while providing clients with faster response times and personalized service. The goal is to make the Naples office a true extension of its headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts, building the same reputation for quality and expertise in South Florida as it has in New England.

Entering a new market comes with challenges, from building brand awareness to forming local partnerships and recruiting skilled talent. Groom is focused on developing strong relationships in the region and assembling a team that understands the nuances of the Florida construction landscape. Success, after all, is driven by the expertise and dedication of the people behind each project.

Beyond construction, Groom places a strong emphasis on safety and community engagement. The company takes a proactive approach to jobsite safety, integrating risk prevention into every phase of the project. Giving back is also a priority, with Groom actively supporting nonprofit organizations in the communities where it operates.

What truly sets Groom apart is its ability to grow without compromising its core values. The company understands that reputation is built one project at a time and that client satisfaction is the key to long-term success.

That commitment to excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed. Kristine Lindeman, Director of Construction for Best Buy, notes that Groom has served as a construction manager and general contractor for hundreds of Best Buy projects nationwide, becoming one of the company’s most reliable partners over the past two decades. Michael J. Jones, President and CEO of Institution for Savings, praises Groom for its professionalism and efficiency, while Jonathan Lavash, a consulting owner’s representative, highlights the firm’s collaborative approach and deep industry expertise.

As Groom continues to expand in Florida, it brings with it a long-standing reputation built on trust, reliability, and a commitment to delivering outstanding results. With over 20 years of experience working in Florida and a 45-year history in construction, Groom is here to stay—ready to build lasting relationships and contribute to the growth of the Southwest Florida community.

Groom Construction Nearing Completion on a New Residential Facility for Foster Care Youth

January 13, 2025

Groom Construction Co., Inc. recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of groundbreaking construction for a new residential facility for foster care youth at Plummer Youth Promise in Salem, MA. This project represents a transformative step forward for the organization and the youth it serves.

The current residential facility on Winter Island, built in 1867, has continuously housed young people for over 150 years—a testament to Plummer’s tremendous legacy. However, the building has long shown its age, with challenges such as a temperamental heating system, cramped double-occupancy bedrooms, and outdated locker room-style bathrooms that offer little privacy for residents.

The new residential facility will provide dignified, trauma-informed living spaces for youth and families, aligning with Plummer’s standard of excellence in care. It will feature apartment-style kitchens and appliances, allowing youth to cook and do laundry in a comfortable, welcoming environment. Ample personal storage will ensure their belongings are safely secured. New single-occupancy restrooms and bedrooms will provide privacy for youth to study, connect with loved ones, and rest without disruptions.

Once the new residential building is completed, we will begin renovations on the historic structure. Preserving this building will honor its important legacy while adapting it to meet modern needs. Included in this space will be administrative offices and culturally welcoming indoor spaces that will support family visits and gatherings. A fully appointed family-visiting apartment will also be available, offering overnight accommodations and a space for families to cook meals together, fostering deeper connections and a sense of home.

The new facility will be heated and cooled via a solar-powered geothermal system. This feature will significantly decrease the operational costs of the facilities over time and reduce the carbon footprint. We’ve installed geothermal heating and cooling by drilling nearly 50 geothermal wells over 300 feet into the earth. This system captures the earth’s constant temperature to efficiently exchange warm and cool air.

Significant milestones have been reached in the project’s development. All exterior flatwork, hardscaping, and paving have been completed, giving the facility a polished and welcoming appearance. Landscaping is now 90% complete, adding natural beauty and functionality to the outdoor spaces.

The building’s exterior is 100% finished, with a weather-tight façade featuring high-quality materials such as Hardi clapboard siding, Hardi trim, PVC water table, and red cedar shingles. These elements ensure durability while complementing the facility’s aesthetic design.

Inside the building, we are currently in the finishing stages. Wall preparations, priming, and finish coats are in progress, while flooring has been installed in 75% of the facility. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) finishes are well underway, reflecting our attention to detail in creating a fully functional space. Casework and cabinetry installation is ongoing, with countertops scheduled to be installed by the end of the month. We are on track to begin the punch list process for the entire second floor this month, with completion expected by the beginning of next month.

This milestone brings us closer to delivering a space designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment for foster care youth. Stay tuned for further updates as we finalize this transformative project!
