Assistant Project Manager

The Assistant Project Manager acts as a resource to the Project Manager(s) by assisting in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of the construction process, to help ensure that the project is delivered on time and within budget.

 

This position will assist the construction department team to coordinate, communicate and execute all activities related to the projects being managed by the construction department. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the project buyout process, in accordance with company standards and timely manner, considering such factors as project schedule, submittal review process and long lead time materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate RFI’s
  • Coordinate the submittal process with the schedule, review process and material lead times.
  • Ensure that all required project documentation is completed in a timely manner, and maintained in the appropriate master project files inclusive of Daily reports, accident reports, –subcontractor logs, submittals, bulletins, drawing logs, sketches and as-built drawings
  • Assist with safety and accident reporting as required
  • Help enforce all Groom Construction Health and Safety Plan regulations.
  • Assist with the coordination of deliverables to obtain necessary permits and licenses and, depending upon the contractual arrangements, monitoring compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations
  • Assist in the tracking and cost control to avoid cost overruns
  • Coordinate, track and receive timely approval of Change Orders
  • Assist in the coordination of invoice approvals
  • Coordinate timely completion and submission of project invoices and requisitions to the client.
  • Assist in meeting minutes recording and follow-up
  • Distribute drawing revisions and address subcontractor issues
  • Assist in the assembly of close-out documents

Qualifications

  • Experience working with contracts, plans, and specifications, and knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling and estimating. Procore experience is a plus.
  • The APM must work well under pressure, be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems, is essential, as is an understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • The APM must be able to establish a good working relationship with clients, other managers, designers, superintendents, and crew.
  • The APM will be required to visit project sites as needed.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable discipline
  • 2 – 3 years construction project management experience preferred
  • OSHA 10-hr is a plus
  • LEED AP is a plus.30

Big Box Retail Traveling Superintendent

Groom Construction’s Retail Division is seeking experienced Traveling Retail Superintendents to manage Big-Box remodel projects nationwide. The Retail Superintendent is responsible for the entire construction project from mobilization to completion, by providing the knowledge, skills, and experience to run day-to-day operations on the job site. The Project Superintendents’ top priority is field coordination, working closely with the Subcontractor(s) to ensure that they are always focused on quality and workmanship that exceeds industry standards. The Project Superintendent must ensure that the work is carried out safely, correctly, within budget, and on schedule.

 

The ideal candidate will have previously managed successful remodeling projects within the big-box retail setting – Target, Best Buy, Kohls, etc. The ability to manage both the general construction trades, as well as experience with fixture installation is required.

Previous experience as a superintendent managing Target remodels is a huge plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, etc. to determine project needs
  • Set performance goals and deadlines
  • Plan construction processes
  • Manage costs, including monitoring employee hours and tracking changes
  • Supervise staff and provide constructive feedback
  • Monitor and report on project progress
  • Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
  • Implement safety and quality guidelines

  • Candidates must be able to travel for lengths of time and be willing to work either the night shift or day shift. Superintendents typically works the day shift while the fixturing team works the evening shift.

Senior Commercial Construction Superintendent (7+ Years)

Groom Construction, a well-respected and growing privately held General Contractor located in Salem, MA, is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent capable of managing commercial projects up to $40M. This position requires on-site supervision and coordination of all field operations required to successfully complete projects on-time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have extensive commercial construction experience, preferably within the greater Boston market; will have an established track record of completing projects in the $5M – $40M range; possess strong leadership and communication skills; have a strong safety record and knowledge of OSHA regulations; and be a proven and dependable team player.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement and enforced safety policies – strong understanding of OSHA regulations; lead project safety meetings, ensure compliance by subcontractors and suppliers, etc.
  • Maintain daily construction log and oversee onsite safety program.
  • Work closely with Project Manager to oversee and facilitate project schedule
  • Provide strong leadership to project team, including subcontractors, vendors, architects, owners, etc.
  • Adhere to project schedules to ensure that milestones are met.
  • Manage oversight and retention of all documents relevant to the project.
  • Conduct weekly “Toolbox Talks” meetings with all personnel working on-site.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years construction management experience, leading a variety of commercial construction projects in the $5M – $40M range.
  • Current MA Construction Supervisors License
  • OSHA 30 certified
  • Knowledge of current building and construction codes
  • Strong organization, communication (verbal and written), and problem-solving skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office programs and ProCore project management software

Retail Traveling Carpenter

Groom Construction, a well-respected and growing General Contractor located Salem, MA, is seeking retail carpenters around the country that have experience working on big-box retail projects.

We’re currently looking for highly motivated, self-sufficient individuals that are extremely productive and drive to produce the highest quality results in a fast-paced, demanding atmosphere. Candidates must have both rough and finished carpentry skills and other light construction experience. Travel is required with accommodations provided. All team members are required to have tools and to maintain a valid driver’s license.

Drywall finishing, tile installation, and painting trade skills are a plus. Experience with store remodels, store setup crews, big-box retail experience, and/or new store openings is highly desired.

  • Qualifications: Practical knowledge and use of hand and power tools.
    Must provide personal tools, i.e., tape measure, box blade, screwdriver, drills, saws, etc (full tool list will be provided)

Estimator

The estimator will be responsible for estimating commercial and institutional construction projects in a timely manner with the ability to fully read specifications and drawings, legends, and equipment schedules, following different document iterations (schematic, construction, and permit sets). We are searching for an estimating professional that is self-motivated, extremely well organized, and accurate; excels in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment, and is capable of working in a team environment as well as taking on smaller projects individually with supervision. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with an ability to prioritize and multitask.

  • Build/Submit Proposals (Includes Budgeting, Scheduling, & Overall Approach to a Project )
  • Manage Subcontractor Invitation to Bid (ITB)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree desired in construction management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Familiarity with blueprints and ability to read plans
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Procore, OnScreen Takeoff (OST) and Building Connected

Project Manager - Retail Construction

The Project Manager assumes primary responsibility for the overall management, completion, and financial outcome of multiple retail construction projects. The ideal candidate will be creative, self-motivating, collaborative, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Coordinating and managing all project resources through the lifecycle of the project. This includes budgets, schedules, contracts, purchase orders, trade partners, and shop drawing logs. This individual also manages risk, insurances, general work performance, and quality. Must be able to work harmoniously in a team environment with both owners and project team members.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and previous retail construction experience relative to project size/scope.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction management experience with a commercial general contracting company, including experience in the retail market.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and initiative. Ability to quickly study and react to complex issues.
  • Some travel will be required.

Lead Carpenter

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience in multi-skilled carpentry
  • Able to perform physical tasks common to lead carpenter positions (lifting items up to 100 pounds, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing, repetitive motion, use of hand tools, etc.)
  • Possess valid State Driver’s License, good driving history and dependable transportation
