Estimator

The estimator will be responsible for estimating commercial and retail construction projects in a timely manner with full specifications and details, following submittals and RFI's. We are an estimating professional that is self-motivated, extremely well organized and accurate; excels in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment, and is capable of working in a team environment. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with an ability to prioritize and multi task.

Responsibilities:

  • Read architectural and ID drawings and understand specifications.

  • Provide correct take offs.

  • Estimate materials and labor, and budget for commercial and retail projects.

  • Form strong working relationships with subcontractors, estimators, architects and owners.

  • Commit to deadlines and deliver accurate estimates in a timely fashion.

  • Manage and respond to RFIs and submittals during the job acquisition cycle.

  • Attend on site pre-bid proposals and job meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years construction experience, estimating experience strongly preferred

  • Experienced with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word

  • Proficiency in takeoff software a plus

  • High degree of organization and accuracy

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Bid Coordinator

Groom Construction is looking for a Bid Coordinator to assist the Estimator with bidding and other various projects in the estimating department. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years experience in the Construction Industry as an Administrative Assistant or Project Coordinator. The position is full time but part time will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Estimator with bidding and other various projects in the estimating department

  • Down load plans / print / have printed

  • Maintain Document Control Log

  • Maintain Job Status Log

  • View bid documents and plans, help prepare trade/sublist for bidding

  • Call subcontractors for bid coverage / Or find new subcontractors

  • Send ITBs

  • Prepare RFIs to the architects, engineers

  • Coordinate job walks and meetings with subcontractor

  • Answering incoming bid calls

  • Prepare bid book

  • Interface with subcontractors

  • Must maintain bid board / plans / bid books / prepare bids books to be handed off to PM

  • Attend office team meetings / maintain estimating meeting minutes

  • Assist in preparing and delivering Proposal

  • Ensure consistent branding

  • Ability to work independently, but as part of a large team

Qualifications and Skills

FIXTURE INSTALLER

Fixture Installers will work on retail construction projects throughout the county.  Applicants must have the ability to travel for a minimum of 3-4 weeks at a time; have previous fixture installation experience; a valid driver’s license; and basic carpentry skills.  Experience with finished carpentry, tiling (VCT and/or ceramic), painting, drywall, framing (wood or metal stud) is a plus.  Applicants must carry themselves in a professional manner and must be able to work in a team environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Perform Fixture Installations and construction related tasks within retail stores on a nationwide basis.

  • Work closely with other installers, Superintendents, Project Managers, and personnel from retail stores, subcontractors, and other general contractors.

  • Adhere to project schedules to ensure that milestones are met

  • Ability to travel for 3-4 weeks at a time

  • Ability to work day, nights, and weekends, as required.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Previous fixture installation experience

  • Basic carpentry skills – experience with finished carpentry, tiling, painting, drywall, laminating skills, carpet installation, etc. is ideal.

  • OSHA 10 certification – those not currently certified will be required to become certified prior to being deployed on a project (Groom will cover all costs)

  • Fork Lift & First Aid certifications

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Tool Bag & basic tools

 
 

Carpenter

We are seeking experienced carpenters for various size projects. We specialize in residential, commercial, tenant fit-outs and retail construction projects including ground-up building, remodeling, retail rollouts, etc.

Requirements for Carpenter:

  • Previous experience in similar projects

  • Finish carpentry skills

  • Carpenters must have own tools and transportation

  • Carpenters must adhere to project reporting, timecard, and administrative requirements.

  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules

Laborer/Carpenter Apprentice

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, to assist other craft workers. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas. 

  • Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks shoring and barricades required at construction sites. 

  • Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.

  • Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel.

  • Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools, and sort, clean and pile salvaged materials.

  • Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment.

  • Operate pneumatic hammers and tampers as directed.

  • Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps.  

Qualifications:

  • Willingness and physically capable of performing assigned tasks.

 

Estimator Intern

The estimator intern will work directly with the head Estimator in the estimating of commercial and retail construction projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in estimate materials and labor, and budget for commercial and retail projects.

  • Form strong working relationships with subcontractors, estimators, architects and owners.

  • Commit to deadlines and deliver accurate estimates in a timely fashion.

  • Assist the Estimator in responding to RFIs and submittals during the job acquisition cycle.

  • Attend on site pre-bid proposals and job meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word

  • Excellent math skills

  • High degree of organization and accuracy

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Rising college sophomores through rising college seniors enrolled in a Construction Management, Engineering, or similar degree program.

 

FIXTURE INSTALLATION APPRENTICE

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, to assist in fixture and product installations/revisions. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cut, shape, and assemble wood, composition, and/or plastic sections with shop tools and equipment such as planers, jointers, shaper, routers, sanders, and various power saws.

  • Assemble prepared components for various structures, including chairs, desks, cabinets, bookcases, and paneled doors. 

  • Prepare structures for finish applications by planning, shaping and sanding; using hand and power tools. 

  • Determine type and dimensions of wood stock to be used.

  • Maintain and clean equipment and work area.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • No less than a year of experience as a fixture installation technician.   

  • Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment. 

 

PROJECT MANAGER INTERN

Assist the Project Manager with providing a professional project and design. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, update and maintain a variety of project controls that track the status of: individual projects or task orders, changes to projects or task orders, RFI, shop drawings and submittal, matters involving quality controls, safety, financial performance, close-out and other aspects of the project(s) or task order(s). Analyze reports and use personal influence to create priorities that prevent delays to critical activities within the project.

  • Manage or support the change management process, by updating logs, routing source documents to vendors, obtaining pricing, developing estimates and proposals, writing change orders and other related activities; 

  • Assist in monitoring, communicating and maintaining project schedules.

  • Maintain and regularly produce reports 

  • Proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate

  • Provide timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups. 

  • Participate in manage activities that are related to project closeout to ensure timely completion.

  • Assist with the evaluation of projects for constructibility and value-engineer cost savings.
