A total transformation using the space that was already there. At the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA, we took an underutilized Boys’ and Girls’ Locker Room and turned it into a Community Locker Room that better matches how families and swimmers actually move through the building.

The redesigned space now includes 20+ private changing rooms with showers, a common area for shoes and getting ready, additional lockers to support busy swim lesson times, stroller parking and a dedicated Mothers Room.

Most importantly, it solves a very real problem: no more dripping kids shivering in the hallway waiting for space to change after swim lessons.

This is what community-focused building looks like, designing the space around how families actually move through the facility. More privacy. Better flow. Less stress after swim lessons.
