Salem State University President Talks 331 Lafayette Street

Newly appointed John Keenan, the 14th President of Salem State University, was posed with a problem. Several areas of the president’s office were separated throughout the campus.  Robert Burr, developer of 331 Lafayette Street, proposed a solution. Keenan decided the  top two floors of the new building, offering 16,000 SF of newly constructed office space, would facilitate enhanced communication in a much needed central location.  Throughout the construction process, Groom Principal Scott Faulkner worked closely with SSU to ensure their needs were met. In President Keenan's words, “It was a fantastic process…we did not have a single complaint.”  Click the link below to watch an extended video including a tour of their new space!

Salem Sate University and the Expect Program

Groom once again was excited to host a group of enterprising Salem State University students through the Expect Program.  An internship program sponsored by the Communications Department,  students receive hands on experience working for a semester for real companies. The Expect team developed social media posts on all platforms and offered their videography and photography skills. This semester proved particularly rewarding as they were able to conduct a live interview and tour the new offices of newly appointed University President John Keenan and his staff. They were also thrilled to visit and video several newly completed projects including the recently renovated Lynch Van Otterloo YMCA in Marblehead.

331 Lafayette Street – Complete!

Opening 6 weeks ahead of schedule 331 Lafayette Street is now complete! The first floor is home to RN Esthetics, a premium Med Spa of the North Shore with two other retail spaces awaiting tenants. Salem State University took lease of the second and third floors now occupied by SSU's Marketing and Institutional Advancement offices. The President, John Keenan was extremely pleased with the space as it allows for consolidation. “What was a fifteen-minute commute between offices has now become a fifteen-step commute.” The offices are moving in over the next few weeks and plan to be up and running after Thanksgiving.  Hear from the Developer, Robert Burr and take a tour of the newest Salem State University offices with President, John Keenan.

331 Lafayette Street - Near Completion

The 331 Lafayette Street Project broke ground this past February and we are pleased to say construction is nearly complete.  The project has come a long way as it took nearly three years for the project developer, Robert Bur, to obtain the property in order to start the project.  Which were once four separate parcels will now stand as a beautiful single property.  The property will serve the surrounding community 8,000 square feet of street-level retail space, including RN Aesthetics and a restaurant.  Office space on the upper floors will be leased to Salem State University Assistance Corporation along with other Salem State University offices.  We are excited for the exterior is nearly complete and we can tackle the interior work.
